Employees that operate Industrial Lift Trucks are considered to be in safety sensitive positions. In addition to knowing the correct procedures for safe operation of a forklift, emphasis is placed on the safety of others in the proximity, as well as the health and ability of the operator.

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard B335 – 04 includes the medical and physical requirements for fork lift operators. Focus Workplace Ltd.’s Occupational Health Professionals offer thorough evaluations which comply or surpass the key elements of the CSA guidelines as follows:

• Vision Testing - with attention to spacial awareness and colour differentiation
• Audiometric Screening - specifically the ability to hear warning signals
• Functional Ability - focusing on range of movement, strength, endurance, agility and coordination

Physical Assessment is a mandatory component of Forklift Medical Certification. Our Medical Director reviews all assessments prior to issuance of any certification.

Due to the safety sensitive nature of a Forklift Operators position, many companies require a screening for drugs of abuse as part of their evaluation process.
