Employees that work in safety sensitive positions should be screened for medical conditions that could prevent them from safely performing their tasks.

A safety sensitive position has been defined as one where the employee’s responsibilities may impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers and / or the public. Once a position has been designated as safety sensitive, a physical demands analysis (PDA) should be completed for that job. The PDA will specify what the physical requirements are. Focus Workplace Ltd will provide medical screening to ensure that the candidate meets those physical requirements.

The Medical Screening for Safety Sensitive Positions may include:
  • Vision Testing - with attention to spacial awareness and colour differentiation.
  • Audiometric Screening - specifically the ability to hear warning signals.
  • Functional Ability - focusing on range of movement, strength, endurance, agility and coordination.
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing - under the direction of our Medical Review Officer, we will conduct drug and alcohol testing in compliance with all laws.

Physical Assessment is a mandatory component of Safety Sensitive Position Medical Screening. Our Medical Director reviews all assessments prior to issuance of any certification.

Focus Workplace has always assisted us with delivering health programs. Now that we no longer have an on-site nurse, we rely on Focus Workplace to deliver all of our programs.
